“ Sagar is a great place for a meal. This is the second time I have ordered DOSA from Sagar and I have not been let down. It is very affordable for London. The taste of the Dosa is great. The staff is great. The first time back since Covid did disappoint. ”
“ One of several spectacular small Indian restaurants I enjoyed on my June visit to London. Many vegetarian and vegan choices served in a lovely atmosphere with excellent service. ”
“ Adore the food here. Masalas are divine as are all appetizers. Jam packed with devoted customers, which can make service a bit slow. But I always make sure to eat here every time I'm in London. ”
“ I ordered the veg biriyani, which was surprisingly quite filling. The rice had a lot of flavor and i enjoyed the fried onions on top. There was a daal and a chutney that came with the biriyani. The daal was nice and light. My friends got the masala dosa which was VERY large. They enjoyed it as well. Sagar has really good Indian food and a must for vegan and vegetarians. They have a comprehensive menu! I've been told to go during lunch though, because they have lunch specials that are cheaper. ”
“ Went to lunch here on a Tuesday afternoon and it wasn't super busy during the lunch hour. The ambience was really nice and we were promptly seated and given water. While it isn't on the menu, they offer a lunch special for 7.8 pounds that includes 2 small curries, rice, sambar, coconut chutney, a dosa, and a dessert-- great deal for students. Everything was super delicious, there wasn't a single element of the platter that I didn't like. The servers were nice and food came out at a reasonable time. Would definitely come back for the lunch special, the dosa was really good. ”
“ Had lunch at Sagar yesterday.... Ambiance - nothing special but it's clean (and that's often hard to find with Indian restaurants.) Service - adequate. Not friendly but food came out quickly. Food - delicious. Highly recommend the masala dosa, the thali, the bindhi. The salad was a bit dry and not super fresh though. Overall - prices are pretty good...we'll definitely return when in the mood for a dosa! ”
“ First meal in London!! My friend who is vegetarian wanted to take us to a local spot she loved. Masala Dosa Rice & lentil golden pancake filled with potato, onions & carrot I was intrigued on why my friend kept telling me to order the dosa! I've never seen it in the States before, so I was eager to try it. The dosa was crispy and was a delicious platter for the sambar and coconut chutney (included with the meal). Bhajia Chopped onions dipped in light batter of gram flour, rice coriander seeds and fried them to give the extra munch My friend really enjoyed this with her garlic rice. Garlic Rice Basmati rice tossed in a deep pan with fresh garlic, cumin seeds, dried red chillies served with raitha Super delish! I definitely recommend this. I love trying new food and I'm thankful Sagar was able to expand my palate! ”
“ The food was quite delicious. Quaint seating area downstairs with more seating upstairs. Service is friendly and prompt which are important to getting to ones show on time. Restaurant seemed pretty full at about 7 PM on Wednesday night. This place is yummy even for non-vegetarians. Sagar has a wide selection of dishes. Their cauliflower dish and spinach dish were nicely seasoned. ”
“ Right at the start, let me make it clear that there are some things that Sagar is brilliant for and some are just not as good as the originals. Sagar is a very famous chain in South India and Bombay for amazing South Indian / Udupi style vegetarian cuisine - this includes dosas, idlis, vadas etc. This Sagar is not a part of that chain, but they say that their chefs are from Udupi and that cuisine is their specialty Conversely, from my experience, the North Indian style food was extremely good and the Udupi cuisine was middling. Can't wait to be home in a week and eat 6 feet long butterpaper thin crispy dosas for less than 2 pounds. I wanted to take away some Vegetarian Indian food, which was why I had come here, but when I saw the dosas on the menu, I could not resist. I gave my takeaway order and asked for a paper masala dosa to eat in. Problems: 1. The dosa was clumpy. Part of the dosa was thin and some parts were just too soft and thick. 2. The dosa was half cold by the time it arrived at my table. 3. The masala that was served separately had something marginally off - it definitely wasn't fresh and seemed to be reheated from the refrigerator after a couple of days. Traditional Udupi masala would have only potatoes. This was a mish mash of carrots, peas, potatoes and paneer. 4. The chutneys (I asked for the extra red chutney) were served cold from the fridge. Ideally they should be served at around 24C temperature. 5, The sambhar wasn't piping hot, it was lukewarm. And note that this is Udupi style slightly sweetish sambhar, not the fiery Tamilian sambhar, so it desperately needs that boiling temperature. If I had just eaten the dosa here, I would have rated this place a 1 or a 2, Why then the high rating of 4? Its for their North Indian food. The Channa bhatura was the best I have eaten in London. If bhaturas (fried bread made from white flour) is too heavy for you, just order the channa (chickpea) masala with parathas, it is outstanding! The aloo gobhi masala (potato & cauliflower) was amazing and the little bit leftover, kept well for a week in the fridge. The dahi vada (fried lentil balls soaked in yoghurt) was also very good. The parathas were almost home made But the absolute cherry on the icing of the cake was the gajar ka halwa (carrot dessert) The dosa was a major disappointment, but I'd go back for the North Indian food any day. Strangely for a so called Udupi restaurant, they have a full bar. Wonder what the purists would think about that. LOL ”
